FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Traveling from his home in Florida to the great state of Texas, Jimmie Lockhart will be looking for more. Fresh off a podium result at Road America, Lockhart and his VRD Racing outfit will tackle the 3.427-mile, 20-turn Circuit of the Americas (COTA) for the final USF Juniors Presented by Cooper Tires event of the season.

Lockhart currently sits firmly in the fifth position of the points battle with the chance to advance forward. Despite showing speed throughout the first 15 USF Juniors races and earning multiple podiums, Lockhart remains winless, a statistic he will look to change this weekend.

“I have a chance to advance in the end of the year championship points, but need a strong weekend of results,” said Lockhart. “We need to push hard for wins and podiums and make sure we limit mistakes and take advantage of those who do. It is the last race of the season and I want to end on top.”

With forecasted temperatures expected to be in the triple digits and the feels-like temperature upwards of 110F, it will be a challenging weekend both on and off the track.

Lockhart added, “COTA is one of the longer tracks we race on so the draft will play a key role in the outcome. Additionally, the heat and humidity will be high and that will take a toll on some drivers. Despite what happens, I need to remain cool and keep hydrated and I know if I do that, I can have a good weekend.”

A jam-packed weekend in Austin, Texas will feature two test sessions, one practice, one qualifying, and three wheel-to-wheel races over three days.
