Taylor makes the jump from karts to cars
As one of the winningest teams in junior open-wheel racing throughout North America over the past few seasons, VRD Racing has confirmed another driver for their 2023 race season. Making the move from national-level karting to cars, Max Taylor joins VRD Racing in the USF Juniors Presented by Cooper Tires championship as he levels up next season.
"I am thrilled to join the VRD team for 2023,” expressed Taylor. “VRD is an amazing team that shares my determination, tenacity and winning spirit. I can’t wait to get the 2023 race season started."
“Max had a great karting career, and it is apparent from his results that he is ready for the next level,” explained VRD Racing’s Dan Mitchell. “We are honored that he has chosen VRD for his first foray into open-wheel racing, and we look to help him build on the incredible foundation that he has already established.”
Beginning his karting career only two years ago, Max exploded onto the karting scene in 2022 putting together an incredible season in the X30 Junior ranks. While earning multiple national-level race wins and podium results, Taylor was the STARS Championship Series KA100 Junior Champion, the Vice-Champion at the IAME Grand National USA Finals and finished third overall in the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour.
Max Taylor’s dad added, “Max deserves this, and he has the talent to make it to Indy and that is our goal. Thank you to Dan Mitchell and everyone at VRD Racing for welcoming Max to your winning program.”
Max continued, "It is a privilege to ascend to this level in such a short time. I want to thank my family and sponsors, PINK ETF, Susan G Komen Foundation, The Organic Project, SIMPLIFY Funds and Hedgeye for their amazing support. Also, a special thanks to my wingman, coach, cuisine consultant, and best friend, my dad, who traveled with me for more than 150 days in 2022, and I am thinking that number will increase in 2023.”
Set to endure an intense winter test program, Max Taylor and VRD Racing will begin their USF Juniors Presented by Cooper Tires season when the first green flag flies over the March 23-25 weekend at the Sebring International Raceway.
